2008 Volunteer Information

All Registration volunteers please report to the volunteer station located at the Start/Finish area at Discovery Park by 6:30 am.

Volunteer Descriptions

Publicity – Publicity Director: Belinda Ramirez
Emcee, order of events, stage performances and awards ceremony are managed by publicity. Post signage along the bike trail one (1) week before the event date. Create and hang signage for Event site as directed by the Publicity Director. Keeps area clean.

Course Marshals – Course Marshal Director: Gary Matteson
Provide course communications and assign marshals to a designated area along the bike course to assist with the coordination and safety of the field of play for all ride participants; keep the course clear of pedestrians, spectators, cars, etc. Marshals are also PR Ambassadors for the Promenade. Keep participants, spectators and other cyclists not involved in the Promenade informed and safe. Keeps area clean.

Hospitality – Hospitality Director: Kim Kennedy
Hospitality creates the main experience for the riders. Keeps area clean.
Volunteers assist in the following areas:
Theme creation (decorations)
Morning Check-in Greeters
Return to Finish Greeters
Raffle Ticket Sellers
Food Prep and Servers

Security – Security Director: Walt Branam
Security is provided to the site venue from pre-event set-up until 3pm the following day. Assist Promenade Security Staff with access-control, including on-course, Promenade EXPO, bike valet and foot trails. Keeps area clean.

Cheerleaders and Energy Team – Cheer Director: Jacqueline M. Samsel
Cheer and Energy Team creates a positive and vocal environment for the participants, keeps the volunteer staff motivated, and steps in to help by observing the flow of the event and anticipating any problems. Cheer staff is assigned to strategic areas of the course to provide encouragement and positive energy, uses kazoos, drums, noise makers, and natural pom-poms to keep things UP! Keeps area clean.

Comfort Stations – Comfort Station Director: Craig Stephens
Comfort stations are located at Discovery Park Start/Finish (Mile 0), Guy West Bridge at CSUS (Mile 7), William Pond Park (Mile 13; auto access via Arden Way), above Natomas Fish Hatchery (Mile 22.5), Negro Bar State Park (Mile 28 turnaround). A communications and medical professional are posted at most stations. Refreshments, medical support, and bike maintenance are provided. Volunteers assist in maintaining supplies at stations. Keeps area clean.

Environmental Green Team – Green Team Director: Mason Christley
Green Team ensures the event maintains a low waste, low noise, low emissions policy. Works with Hospitality to enhance the natural setting with festive decorations. Sets up and manages recycle stations. Keeps area clean.

Transportation Management – Transportation Director: Slue Railsback
Direct auto traffic into Discovery Parkl on a "first come, last leave" basis. Direct foot traffic and cyclists to the START area which is near the bridge, on the bike trail at Mile Marker 0. Keeps area clean.

Medical Team – Medical Team Director: Dr. Mark Sheffield
Formalize medical emergency action plan with communications staff and EMT services. Assign and rotate medical personnel at comfort stations (aid stations) and on-course roving medical team on bikes. Keeps area clean.

Event Production – Production Director: Chris Hollingsworth
Assist Promenade Expo staff with coordination: guide Vendors and Exhibitors to their tents for set-up; assist with Expo logistics as needed; assist with Marketing activities in Expo. Broken into Two Shifts (Saturday Set-up and Load-in:2 hrs.; Sunday afternoon Runners/Activities and Breakdown 2 hrs.). Reiterate the low waste, no litter policy. Keeps area clean.

Merchandising – Merchandising Director: Lori Walker
The merchandising volunteers assist with the marketing and selling of Princess Promenade logo wear, presenting an attractive booth, maintaining inventory, financial transactions, and excellent customer service. This includes asking customers what products they want to see on the website and at the 2008 Princess Promenade. Keeps area clean.

Volunteer Center – Volunteer Center Director: Open
Assist Promenade Volunteer Coordinator with set-up, check-in/registration and volunteer deployment. Revise roles as needed. Reassign volunteer personnel as needed. Keeps area clean.
